TESTIMONIALS
"We've found the STAY-PUT BLANKET to be the perfect horse blanket. It offers a cozy fit that truly stays put. Dusty and I are thrilled with the blanket's performance, especially during these cold Minnesota days. Just like American Express, we don't leave home without our Stay-Put Blanket!"

Q. In what temperatures can I use my STAY-PUT BLANKET?
A. Our STAY-PUT BLANKET offers winter warmth without the weight of traditional blankets. Because the fabric used in our winter blanket wicks moisture away from your horse, is 95% wind proof, and is breathable, the STAY-PUT BLANKET can be used in a wide range of temperature fluctuations. We consider from 25 degrees to 65 degrees a good range. Each horse, however, is different. Care should be taken to use an over blanket in the event that your horse appears chilly. The STAY-PUT BLANKET should be removed if your horse appears too hot. As with any good horse husbandry, "know your horse" and check on him daily for continued comfort and safety.
Q. Will this blanket rub the hair off my horse like all the other blankets have done in the past, particularly at the shoulders?
A. We have never had a horse with shoulder rubbing from our STAY-PUT BLANKET . . . nor has any other part of the horse been rubbed. As with all good horse management, please remove the blanket and check your horse at regular intervals to be sure that no foreign material has gotten under your blanket which could cause injury.
Q. What about when my horse lies down. Will the STAY-PUT BLANKET bind?
A. Since there are no straps or hardware used on the STAY-PUT BLANKET, there is no possibility of binding or chafing of your horse. Your blanket will move with your horse when it gets up, lies down, or runs and gallops.
Q. How do I measure the STAY-PUT BLANKET for my horses?
A. We recommend using a standard measuring practice along with a few additional measurements. Please see the photos for these measuring points on our Sizing Page.
Your blanket should not fit too snugly, especially in the chest/neck region. The STAY-PUT BLANKET tends to run a little smaller than traditional blankets. You may need a larger blanket than you have purchased in the past. If your horse has a large or muscular chest (Quarter Horse type), you may need to order a Plus Size. Please call our toll free number at 1-877-672-5948 to confirm sizing with Lenore Graham. Because IRON HORSE BLANKETS has its own factory in the USA, we can also customize your STAY-PUT BLANKET for your horse's maximum comfort and safety.
Q. Is the STAY-PUT BLANKET waterproof?
A. Your blanket will be water resistant, but not waterproof. If you need to have a waterproof blanket, you may place an over blanket on top of your STAY-PUT BLANKET.
Q. What's so different about our fabric's water repellent nature and other fabrics that say they are water repellent?
A. Our water repellent fabric has each thread permeated during the manufacturing process (not added after manufacturing). This enables the fabric to stay water repellent for the duration of your blanket's life.
Q. My horse is very young and likes to rough house. Is the STAY-PUT BLANKET suitable for my horse? What about my paddock conditions?
A. The STAY-PUT BLANKET is not designed for young horses - yearlings - or rough acting older horses without the use of an over blanket. An over blanket must also be used in areas containing prickly types of vegetation, or areas enclosed with barbed wire fencing.
Q. What sizes and colors do your STAY-PUT BLANKETS come in?
A. We have all sizes from Mini to Draft sizes. Custom sizing is available for an additional fee. Our color selection is Blue, Hunter Green, Burgundy and Black.
Q. How long does it take to put the STAY-PUT BLANKET on my horse and remove?
A. Our blanket is so easy to use. It takes about 1 minute to put on, and 1 minute to take off. It only takes a couple of times to get the hang of it.
Q. Do I always have to open and close the chest velcro when I put my STAY-PUT BLANKET on my horse?
A. Not at all . . . if your horse doesn't mind a blanket going over his head and is not spooky about it, then by all means, leave the velcro closed. Our blanket works just as well both ways.
Q. How do you clean the STAY-PUT BLANKET?
A. Machine washing and either line drying or machine drying is the preferred method of cleaning your STAY-PUT BLANKET. Do not use bleach or fabric softener. Before laundering, close all Velcro straps together to prevent snagging. DO NOT OVER DRY. It is best to take your blanket out of the dryer a bit moist to prevent static electricity. To help prevent static electricity, wad up piece of aluminum foil (no sharp edges please) and add to the dryer. If you line dry, be sure to shake your STAY-PUT BLANKET out thoroughly to also help prevent static electricity.
Q. Will fabric softener or bleach harm my blanket?
A. Fabric softener reduces the ability for our Wind-Pro fabric to breath because it shrinks the fabric fibers. As in all other types of fabric, unless stated by manufacturer, no bleach or fabric softener should be used because of potential damage to fabric.
Q. How often can you wash it?
A. There is no limit to amount of times you can launder your STAY-PUT BLANKET as long as you follow appropriate directions.
Q. How exactly should my STAY-PUT BLANKET fit my horse?
A. The general rule of thumb is for you to be able to comfortably slip your hand between the neck of the blanket and your horse's body. The blanket should start in front of the withers and go just to the tail, or slightly over the tail. The blanket should in no way be snug on your horse or detract from its movements. Complete directions for sizing your STAY-PUT BLANKET can be found on our Sizing Page.
Q. Will it rip?
A. As with all blanket placed upon a horse, you will never know what to expect. A horse can be in a padded stall, hooked to the wall to restrict movement, and when you return, his blanket is ripped. All blankets rip. Horses average 1200 lbs. Our STAY-PUT BLANKET is easily repairable.
Q. What do I do if my STAY-PUT BLANKETS gets a hole or rip in it?
A. There are two methods of repair. You can either stitch up the hole/rip with a needle and thread, or you can glue it together with a product such as an all-purpose household WELDER. We can offer small replacement patches as needed. Just call 1-877-672-5948 for more information. As all horse owners know, at some point in the life of any blanket, it will not be in "new" condition. Usability, safety and ease of use and comfort are the key ingredients for our wonderful STAY-PUT BLANKET.
Q. What if the elastic breaks?
A. We offer a repair on elastic or Velcro for 2 years. Purchaser will be charged for shipping.
Q. Will the STAY-PUT BLANKET generate static electricity?
A. Many blankets cause "electrical shocks" in the dry winter months. Ours is no exception. Please DO NOT use fabric softener as it can interfere with our water repellent abilities which are manufactured into each thread of the STAY-PUT BLANKET. To help avoid static electricity, dry on a low temperature, wad up a piece of aluminum foil (no sharp edges please) and place it in your dryer when you dry. Do not use your "home made fabric softener ball" more than 4 times before discarding. Static electricity is generally caused by a build up of negative electrons in the atmosphere and is neutralized by the aluminum. If line drying, you should have no static electricity issues if you shake your blanket out well after drying. In the event that you forget the aforementioned, just ground yourself before and after putting your STAY-PUT BLANKET on or off your equine. Spray the blanket with Static Guard.
Q. Will the STAY-PUT BLANKET shrink or stretch?
A. As you will see when you get your blanket, there have been special precautions taken with our STAY-PUT BLANKET to prevent either from happening. The Polartec Windpro Fabric is designed not to shrink or stretch. We have also added high-quality elastic along the outer circumference of the blanket in order to maintain the integrity of each size.
Q. How long does the blanket hold up?
A. You can easily expect your STAY-PUT BLANKET to be serviceable for 2 years or more, depending upon the care you give it.
Q. How does the Velcro hold up?
A. The Velcro used in your STAY-PUT BLANKET has been thoroughly tested. If your Velcro closures ever fail to maintain contact, just return your blanket to IRON HORSE BLANKETS and we will replace the pieces that have failed for up to 2 years from date of purchase.
Q. How do I clean the Velcro if it gets filled with hair/shaving/hay in it?
A. You can use a dog or cat grooming device with metal teeth to lightly remove debris. We will be adding a Velcro Brush to our line of products this Fall.
Q. What type of warranty do you offer for the STAY-PUT BLANKET?
A. We have a 30 day, money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the performance of your STAY-PUT BLANKET. We also offer a 30 day, money-back guarantee on all other products as long as they are returned in New Condition. Please see our 100% Satisfaction Guarantee Return and Exchange Policy for a complete description of our policy.
Q. Your blanket costs more than some traditional blankets. Why?
A. While our price point may seem a little higher than some traditional blankets, there is a good reason. First and foremost is quality. All of our blankets are hand sewn in Gainesville, GA (American Made and not shipped in from a foreign source). All of our materials are American Made. The performance fabric required to make this design work is extremely expensive per yard, but it is totally worth it. Because this blanket offers a one-of-a-kind design, it allows a horse totally non-restrictive movement when wearing it. The good news is you will save money in the long run. Our blanket is machine washable which means saving time and money sending a blanket out to be cleaned. Most importantly, your horse deserves the best blanketing system - one that offers comfort and safety.
